Hi there drupal community friends,

I am very very new to drupal and am very excited about what it can offer to build a professional website of basically all sorts. It is really a great achievement by drupal open source community.

By the way, what I would like to know about drupal is whether I can use it to create an intranet application for our clients. For ex: a studio management system (project, quote, invoice, timesheet etc management) or even an accounting system or a hotel management system etc. as modules.

Is drupal a right candidate for the above?
Can we use the power drupal to achieve that?
Or should we use a php framework like Zend together with the Drupal to achieve that (I am very new to the frameworks as well so my question may be little weird)

Currently we have developed our own CMS system and we were able to do the studio management system within that.
But I am actually looking at a powerful CMS framework like drupal (that can offer a lot of things we need already) and build over that.

Please shed some lights on my question so that I can proceed on my way with that light.

Thanks for your reply. I am getting confident to start to work with drupal.

In your intranet application have you created any modules for improving / adding new functionality?
Is creating a module fairly simple. Is this how you add more functionality to the drupal site?
For example in my studio management system website, is a quote, project, invoice, timesheet etc each are separate modules?

It gave me the confidence to look at Drupal as a development environment. Note: the books are about Drupal 5.x and not 6.x, which is fine for my purpose.

I am actually developing in the drupal 6. But I think it should be useful for me to read those books even though they are for drupal 5.

The second edition is about Drupal 6 only. I did not realize this until buying the second edition as well.

Hi,

this looks like a very old post, I am sure by this time u might have completed your intranet application development using Drupal. But this could be helpful for many other developers who are having the same qns.

For few times, i had to develop some intranet applications, after lots of R&D in internet i have chosen Drupal along with Storm module. Storm modules may need some customization based on your needs.
But this is the best!!!

If anyone of you know any other better CMS other than this for Intranet application, please let me know.
