i want to create a role as forum moderators, so they can only moderate forum topics and comments/replies.

how can i achieve that?

Wasn't sure if this was ever answered, but I too would like to know of a way to add a moderator to a forum. From what I understand, the only access options are edit/create forum topics and administer forums. I'm a bit wary of allowing users to administer the forums, especially since I'm creating a site for teens.

I'm also eager to learn about a way to allow a moderator role to edit any forum topic (or comment) without giving that role access to 'administer forums'.

Any suggestions for this thread?

I think you may be able to do this through the taxonomy access module. Not 100% sure.

Node Access Arbitrator says it does this if you don't mind expierementing with a cvs module:
