(First time filing an issue, so I hope this is the right place and right settings.)
In D5 node/add/page under menu settings is the help text "The name to display for this menu link.".
In D6 they changed this to "The link text corresponding to this item that should appear in the menu. Leave blank if you do not wish to add this post to the menu."
As adding a menu item for the newly created node isn't strictly necessary, this might be confusing in D5, and it was for a friend of mine.
Suggestion: change the help text in D5.

add1sun commentedAh, this is a core Drupal code change that would need to happen. We only do bug fixes to stable releases of Drupal core. Since this is a core docs issue and not a Handbook change, I'm moving this to the Drupal issue queue.

jhodgdonDrupal 5 has been string frozen except for major bugs for a long time now (meaning we won't fix any user-facing text except if it's really broken), so this is a "won't fix" issue.
But just in case someone wants to reopen it in the future, moving to correct component and tagging.
