Hi!

I installed the voting.module from Benjamin Shell as described in the readme.

- I created the tables,
- copied the files,
- enabled the module and
- set permissions to vote.

The module is configured to show up in my image gallery, which perfectly works. I can vote on the pictures. it displays the "Saving" tag, BUT it doesnt save my vote. The "Average (votes)" isnt changing (also tried with different user accounts) :/

Anyone has an idea where the problem could be?

Have you checked your database, to see if the votes have saved?...

If they have saved - it could be a problem with your voting.module code, maybe the flash is not recognising the votes.

If they haven't saved - it could again be your code, not recognising where to save them, or possibly the 'voting id' is an issue.

Btw, if you haven't touched the code, then it's probably not the code...and if that's the case, I wud also like to know how you got the problem.

first of all, thank you for your reply jase, I really appreciate it.

to reply to your suggestions, I have to say that I haven't touched the code at all - I just followed the instructions given by the readme which came with the module step by step.

As mentioned in my initial post, nearly everything is working fine:

- I can activate the module in whatever section I want it to (currently activated in my Image Gallery)
- it is possible to "interact" with the rating stars, so that the highlighted stars change by selection
- when I click to "submit" my selection/voting, it displays the "Saving"-text
- then, there comes the "My Vote"-text and the selected stars stay highlighted, which indicates that the workflow is perfectly fine, exept the fact that it DOESN'T SAVE :)
"Doesn't save" means: the "average votes"-display doensn't get updated; when I leave the site/node and come back, my rating has gone.

Also, there is no error in the log-files, so the connection between site or module and database is fine (going to check that).

So I hope anyone who used voting.module has a similar experience, which he successfully fixed.

I need to look into the database if there is actually something stored in the voting-tables or not. I will update this thread with further information regarding the database in approx. 4 hours.

Hello again,

Some how I’ve just had this problem – with one of my voting controls...the other controls were working fine.

I checked the database and found that the voting control [that had a problem] was not saving the votes - but still the voting control had said "saving" when I voted, and "My Vote:" appears. However, the Average Votes and Number of Votes show nothing.

The solution that solved my problem was to delete all my cookies...

Basically, the cookies were telling the voting controls my vote and remembering just mine. Why the voting controls were not saving to the database this time, I don't know...a voting.module bug!

After refreshing the page with the voting control on, "My Vote:" does not show [hence cookie has been deleted], and when I tried it out with a new vote, problem solved! Vote saves to my database and averages are generated.

seems that I have no luck with this module. I have the exact problem you also stated:

...besides the fact that deleting cookies doesn't help. I also tried using Internet Explorer with deleted cookies and cache, but no luck.

In addition, I also tested on a different notebook with a different account, which has never accessed the voting feature before, but also no luck.

When looking into the database, (who would have thought of that?) there's no data in the two voting module tables.

I'm running out of ideas now...

I just found this thread. I'm sorry the voting.module isn't working for you. I will definitely take a look at this tomorrow morning.

btw. I dont want to blame your module, because I already saw it working on the page of someone else (jase, for example).

I just cant figure out whats the problem in my case.

btw. I will not be online from 4. to 11. september (holiday faaaar away ;)
