I'm trying to get this working, I have a role set to access FCKeditor. When I edit the "Advanced" profile and select the role then save, I continue to get the following message

Not all roles with access fckeditor permission are associated with FCKeditor profiles. As a result, users having the following roles may be unable to use FCKeditor:

* Advanced Editor

Create new or edit FCKeditor profiles below and in the Basic setup section, check "Roles allowed to use this profile".

When I re-enter the profile, the role is no longer checked.

Are you sure you're using 5.x-2.2-rc1? I can't reproduce it.
I have created "Advanced Editor" role, assigned "access fckeditor" permission to it, then added this role to Advanced FCKeditor profile.
After saving, when I edit this profile, the "Advanced Editor" role is still checked. Maybe your browser is serving cached pages?

Any chance to see it live?
