I downloaded and installed the 5.x-1.x-dev version and my update status says it is up to date (but says the v3 test version is there) but makes no mention of the v2 versions of the module.

Is that a mistake (that hte v2 versions are omitted)? Should I stick with v1 until v3 is done?

You actually got v2. The snapshot is misnamed due to historical screwups.

I'd recommend v3 for a new site, v1/v2 have many known issues that will not be patched.

I've 'just' installed it and configured it (v1) on this new site....so should I upgrade to v3?
