How do you send anonymous users to the registration page when they click "Write to Author", or atleast display a message stating they must register in order to send private messages.

Currently, if you uncheck "access private messages" for anonymous users, the link "Write to Author" simply disappears.

I would like anonymous users to see the link, but not be able to message others, but ather be encouraged to register. This is a very common setup on socnet sites that use a private messaging system.

Is this possible without recoding the module?

Please help.

I'm closing old issues since Privatemsg for Drupal 5 is not maintained anymore. I suggest you switch to Drupal 6 if possible, many of the reported issues are probably already resolved there and if not, you're welcome to open a new issue.
