Well it is slowly getting there, I am learning the ways and what fors, but I think I have bigger ideas than what I can get modules for.

What I am looking for now is a way to catalogue things or database things, for example I would like to list all my books or movies and add thing like director or author. I have checked around to see what modules are out there, but when one is looking for something that they do not know what it is, it is hard to find it..

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Check out the content construction kit (CCK) which allows you to make content types. In this case you might make one content type for books and another for movies. Each would represent one book/movie and you can add the fields you want. The views module is also useful as it allows you to show your catalog of books (movies) in a variety of ways.

Would there happen to be a tutorial or screencast around that could help me out with this module. Jumping right in is ok, but totally massacreing something is not always the most productive way of learning it.

check the handbook
its your best friend
and look for cck plugins like imagefield etc
