Winrar or free options

I don't work on Windows anymore so I'm not sure about Winzip (though I never cared for it when I had it in the past)... however I know that Winrar is able to extract tar.gz (as well as many other formats). It has a demo, but if you'd like something free: http://www.google.com/search?q=gzip+windows

You mention Final Cut Pro,

You mention Final Cut Pro, which is a Mac-only program. If you are actually using a Mac and not Windows, then it can open tar.gz files without installing any additional software. I assumed you were using Windows since you mentioned Winzip and since if it were a Mac it would have just extracted the file without prompting you to install anything. Just checking - I'm guessing you are using Drupal on a Windows computer in this case though.
