Drupal as a Hosting/multi-site option

Hi,
I am looking at setting up an kind of business directory but with mor flexibility. It will essentially be more like the old site builder/hosting sites of old. Where you pick a site name fill in some page information, pick a design and you are away.
I have heard that drupal supports multiple sites from the one install and was wondering if this is in fact true and if so whether this would suit the basic needs of above.

Hi Dan,
Drupal "can" be used to host multiple sites from the one code base.
There are many different configuration options and the "implications" of all of these different options aren't documented very well (that I have found).
There are also many modules available that can help in certain situations (mostly to do with security which is the biggest issue.
You'd really have to give more details about your requirements to get more informed answers.
Note: I have setup a system similar system and security was the biggest issue.
