Contribute using the localization server

Last updated November 26, 2010.

Drupal.org's translation server is located at http://localize.drupal.org offering numerous teams the possibility of easy translation contributions. To contribute, do the following:

  1. Log in at http://localize.drupal.org with your drupal.org username and password
  2. Find the language you want to translate to on the front page, and join the group for that language.
Most groups are open, so you will be able to join immediately. For some languages you may have to wait until a group admin approves your application. You'll find the join buttons at the bottom of the sidebar on group landing pages.
If you want to translate a language which is new to Drupal, or if you want to move an existing team to localize.drupal.org, follow the procedure at the bottom of the localize.drupal.org front page, under "Set up your group here".
  3. When you have just joined a group, you can only submit translation suggestions. Suggestions will not be included in downloadable translations, and will need to be approved by an authorised user before becoming a translation. Different groups have different policies for giving team members additional permissions. More information: More granular group permission control deployed

Before starting to translate, read the information on the overview page and the team page carefully to find out if there are language specific guidelines, procedures, or glossaries.

Important: The localization server parses all releases of a project. If you want to make sure you don't spend time translating strings which are only used in obsolete versions, filter for a specific project first. You then get the option of filtering for only the release(s) you are interested in.

It is also possible to export GNU Gettext .po files for offline work and then importing your contributions back to the server.
