How to create a paged search form

Hi,

I would love to create a search form that works like this:

http://drupal.org/project/issues/views?projects=38878&states=1&categorie...

Basically, the user enters the criteria, the results are displayed and the pager shows the results.
What's the basic architecture to obtain exactly this?

I am especially puzzled because the form itself is POST, but then the page gets the variable through GET...

Is there a simple module that does exactly this and does it well, so that I can have a look at the source?
