Hi,

I'm developing a site with Drupal6.

I'm currently using:
1. multiple blogs
2. forums
3. Views and CCK for various things

I (think) I desperately need imagefield for CCK, and have also come across several contrib modules that I would like to install.

Would I be smarter ploughing ahead without these features in D6 until they come out, or should i really be using D5?

Both advice and opinion desperately wanted.

Based on the modules you named, I would proceed with Drupal 6. CCK and Views for D6 have been quite stable for me so far, and I am planning to release a major site within the next month based on them. Imagefield for D6 is also available, though it has a dependency on FileField now, which is available on D6.

You weren't specific about the other modules though. Which modules do you need that aren't yet ported to Drupal 6?

Thanks David,

There's been many times when I've seen modules available only for 5.x. Hard to list them off the top of my head, but a few are;

zoomify, Address field for CCK, nodereferrer, and a few others.

Although, as you mentioned, Imagefield and Filefield have versions available for D6, they wouldn't work for me this morning - and they are still in alpha or rc.

i'm just wondering if I'm upgrading too early.

Thanks for you reply.

You are on the early side of the curve. I would try to make it work though. I expect that a lot of the Drupal 5 modules are in the process of getting ported or will be ported soon. A lot of people were waiting for Views2 on Drupal 6. Now that it is becoming stable, I think a lot more people will be moving over.

Also, remember that some modules in Drupal 5 will never get upgraded to Drupal 6.

After months of serious heartache and wasted time, I have adopted the following rules for myself at this time (6 months from now is a different story):

1. Don't even think about updating an existing Drupal 5 site to Drupal 6 if it uses views or images in a non-trivial way.

2. If you are starting a site from scratch, and know for an absolute fact that all of your modules you need are completely updated to Drupal 6, ok, give it a try.
