Looking at the issue queue and sources of those entered those issues, there seems to be a good interest in this module. It would be really sad if this gets abandoned. Some people have tried to contact developer with no luck.

Any brave soul here who would like to take this over? I am not a developer but promise to help test any patches or changes as I have done in the past. I think this module has lot of potential and seems to be well designed.

Sure, I'd be interested. Using this a lot and adding our own customizations (D6) that we'd like to contribute back. UI improvements, integration with content_profile, Views integration. Haven't used these modules with Drupal 5 though, if anyone would like to co-maintain that'd be great.

I'm not a real developer but I could help. I think this module have far more uses as buddylist. I'm creating a User Alias module (Dave Delong started it but I don't know if he's working more on it) that could benefit a lot from this one. I think it would be also the time to add the Drupal 5 features in the Drupal 6 one (views, invite, privatemsg)

It could also benefit the userpoints and familytree modules. I really think some developers from those could help here, because this is a very good module.

Alex, I would try to help you. But I should say I'm really new in module development and I need to learn a lot, maybe we could help each other.

You may want to open an issue queue to drupal.org webmaster to get you CVS access and access to his module's queue and get started.

http://drupal.org/node/251466 documents the process to take over the module, which takes a couple weeks to give the maintainer enough time to respond. Unless you can find a place where the maintainer's publicly stated that they're no longer maintaining it, then we can do the process a bit faster.
