I have done this myself with CCK, but I think it would be useful for other people. Here in the UK about 10% of people are vegetarian and many more have allergies to glutton and the like. If such people are searching they are only interested in recipes which meet there requirements.

You can actually do this by just adding a vocabulary and making sure it's applied to the Recipe content type.

#1 is the solution. Also provides for any other sort of classification of recipes a site desires.
