is there a way to batch upload to the /node image folder.....

if you are uploading to the node and use the images in a node then they should stay with the node. (tagged to the author perhaps?)

There is no node folder, the images are associated with the user, not the node and are made available for use in any node the user creates. The imagepicker box is in an iframe, unconnected to the node and just provides a way for the user to paste in the code for an image to be displayed in a node.See http://drupal.org/node/303886 for a related discussion.
Batch uploading in another issue, I see that the Fastgallery module claims to work that way but there are a whole bunch of file permission issues that would have to be addressed. This could probably be done as a sub module to imagepicker, quite a lot of work so I'm afraid it won't happen just yet as I have a business to run.
