Hello, maybe it's an stupid question, but the D6 version is IC 1 or 2? Does it need public files? On that case when do you plan to port the V2? Thank you!

My guess is 2.x -- it doesn't require a public file system.

no, it works fine with private files... and currently if you don't have mod_rewrite you must use private files for it to work.
