I have just upgraded from a very old version of apachesolr to the current beta. (I have also tried the dev release) I am able to get facet blocks for type and user but not for vocab terms. Is there something simple I am missing?

I'm not sure, but it could very well be your index. Try wiping your index, moving the new schema.xml in place and re-indexing. Sorry, but there is no way to change the schema nicely...
