I want to ask if it is possible to make site like http://bombedout.com/ in drupal without some special hack with using phptemplate theme?
And how to make (left side) menu which will be generated automaticly depends on structure in database.
(ex.: http://bombedout.com/artists)
And if it is possible which modules may I use?
Thank you for your response.

quick answer
the quick answer is yes, drupal can handle it without hacks.
There are a few ways of creating that left menu automatically...without having to hack anything.
For example, there's an out-of-the-box BOOK.module NAVIGATION block you can use and theme accordingly that automatically displays related links to the page the person is viewing.
That's a nice record label site, by the way. It's a funky look, but with good functionality....some music sites look great but when you start clicking around it sort of falls apart at the seams..the bombedout webguys have struck a nice balance of looking good, but, being ergonomic & practical at the same time.
Drupal can handle a site like that no problem and much more. The challenge and real hard-work is getting the theme into drupal. PHPtemplate makes life much easier on that front. To the point that you can just tweak one of the existing phptemplate based themes and use your own style.css.
Don't be put off by the PHPtemplate name..it is based on php, but, the way they have set it up allows non-php experts like me to be able to tweak stuff and move stuff around on a page without having a cardiac arreste and leaving time to concentrate on the design.
hope that helps

Modules in menu
Thank you for answer.
Is possible to assign to some of these links which are generated in the menu some module?
For example, menu

Possible but
a good knowledge of Drupals PHPTemplate Engine and CSS is required.
The left site menu is no problem. You can do something like this with Drupals Taxonomy Menu System.
Other modules (at least) required are:
front page module for the homepage
and flexinode for customized nodes and teaser.

Hi there.
I found this via our website referal stats. :-)
First of all thanks for the kind words regarding my web site! Took me an age to design and we use a custom CMS rather than an out the box solution.
I think you'll find that most of the work is done via the CSS and all a CMS would need to do is list the contents to the screen in a well structured way to produce something similar to what we achieved.
Good luck anyway!
