Is it possible to have the background of a block switched? For instance every 30 seconds another bg image. I need this to have a calender managed by users in this block and that should not be changed. So I can not use different blocks. So a kind of image rotator but then for the background image.

I suggest you have a look at
I suggest you have a look at one of the existing image rotator modules or JS snippets to do that, and then modify to manipulate the background image instead of whatever foreground image the JS targets. If the original JS code uses jQuery then it would be easy to modify it to manipulate a different element/property.
