I thought I had not installed something correctly until I realized my FF 3 did not have flash installed properly
Generally on most sites, if Flash is needed a message appears saying, flash is not installed.
is it possible to have this show if flash is not installed
currently there is just a blank box (appears as if there is no content)

Stuart Greenfield commentedYou should see the "Flash is not available" message if you are using a JavaScript replacement method since this will check for the presence of flash.
If you are using direct embedding then you get a "placeholder" where the object should appear, but no substitution content.

netentropy commentedhow do you switch to Javascript detection?
Stuart Greenfield commentedRefer to this documentation page where the section headed Adding support for javascript replacement methods describes the necessary steps.
At this time, if you have not previously used JavaScript embedding, then I'd suggest trying SWF Object 2 as your script based embedding method since this is the most current method and is actively supported by its developers.
