I've just installed Drupal and started playing around with it. I had 6 initially but switched to 5 after seeing that e-commerce modules aren't quite ready in Drupal 6.

Anyways, what I want to do is create a site through which registered users can post/upload pictures and prices of certain items which they have available for sale, and have them appear in some sort of catalog viewable to all users. I know I'll need to incorporate Ubercart and a paypal module. I just want to make sure there is functionality in Drupal to allow registered users to add content to the product catalog and have them available for sale with a picture and short description. What other modules would you recommend for this project?

Actually, what are the advantages/disadvantages of the ubercart and e-commerce modules in relation to each other? Could you enable both and use functions from each? Would one be more capable to handle the sale of user uploaded products?

i don't believe you can use both-- google around with those terms, iirc there's some good articles comparing the two.
