Multi Upload Display & Fields

Currently when the Number of Values field is set to "Unlimited", 2 fields would appear, along with the "Add another item" button. Would it be possible to set the default values to 1?

When attaching multiple images to a node, and using Views to create a grid view, multiple images per node tends to distort the display. I'm have not found any workaround solutions for it, either to show only first image, or auto propagate as another entry. Any insights would be appreciated.
