Settings for some of my modules have dissapeard from mysite.com/admin

Help!
about 1/2 of the links to my module settings have suddenly disappeared from mysite.com/admin
They are installed, and i have permissions set to them, and i can access their functionality on the front end, the site building links no longer appear on the admin page tho.
Ive rebuilt access permissions and menu router and all caches, but nothing.
any suggestions?
I should say that it looks
I should say that it looks like the "site configuration" menu (not the "Site Building" menu) is the only one with some of the links to the module settings missing.
Also I had installed the "workflow" module, to try it out, but ended up uninstalling it. Could that have done it?
solved
I was using the vertical tabs module, and apparently that removes some admin links. and puts them all on another page under "main configuration"
Why? I dont know.
