Need for a free flv player? I have one (almost)

leetamus - September 17, 2008 - 18:57

Hi Drupal dudes

I'm in the final stages of developing a video sharing site which originally used Jeroen Wijering's FLV Media Player. Being that I'm mainly a flash dev I couldn't bring myself to pay for usage of the player so I ended up making my own. I've used all the same variable names as Jeroen's so it can be fully configured from the admin interface (at least using op_video, i assume it will work with any module using Jeroen's player). So far I have all the same features except for theming the colour. I've also added a feature so you can have a watermark logo overlayed on the video. I'm also working on adding a feature where if you watch part of a video and leave, when you come back the player will ask if you want to continue where you left off (by use of a sharedObject).

As of now the player is somewhat customized for my site, but if I thought there was interest within the community for an entirely free player (even commercial use) then I would be happy to make a more generic version for the masses!

If anyone is interested, let me know! You can leave a message here, or right-click the player and click the link to email me. You can see it in action by following the link below.

Looks good - I'm looking for the same FLV player ...

backdrifting - September 17, 2008 - 19:51

I'm looking for a FLV player that does exactly this. Does this player integrate easily with Flash node module? I'm currently uploading FLV files using Flash node (Flash content type) but the issue is that there's no skin/player for the FLV once it's uploaded. Would your solution work?

Any suggestions?

I'm not familiar with any video module outside of open package.. it sounds to me like you possibly haven't completely set up flash node, there's usually a readme file in the module root which should give some instruction on where to put the skin/player file. I would think if the skin isn't loading my player probably won't load either until you figure out your pathing issue. Can you post a link so I can take a look?

That said, I'm happy to see some interest in the player. When I get a moment I'll start stripping out my custom code and post the player for you and others to mess around with. ;)

Free FLV Media Player

Sounds interesting. There is always place for free stuff that Drupalers can use.

Will you release the source code as well?

I'd like to release the

leetamus - September 17, 2008 - 21:49

I'd like to release the source, but I created the player for my work so there may be some problems with that... eventually I'm sure this can happen, but for now it's just the player.

I'd be very interested in

I'd be very interested in this.

Well it looks like there's enough interest for me to make this happen. I'll be working out some bugs in the player over the next week or so, then once it's nice and stable I'll post a link to the player. :D

Do you have an update on

Simple, themable (colors)

Simple, themable (colors) and GPL: http://www.osflv.com/

I really would like a JW equivalent under GPL though. JW is much more accessible, and latest versions support synchronized under titles and -audio stream in MP3. If your version supports this please reserve some bandwith when you release the player ;-), you definitely gonna get some serious attention for it.

Webbased applicaties, content management systemen, websites, webdesign

When is it coming?

Loketo - November 8, 2008 - 03:09

I can't wait for your player, especially if it is as feature rich as the JW Player. Recently, JW has imposed heavy restrictions on his licence, making it unaffordable for small operations and individuals. Worse, his website says one thing, but when you try to acquire a licence, the story changes.
