Right now, book module doesnt show when a particular page was created or updated.

For eg: http://drupal.org/node/10858 was posted long back by jvandyk, but if the author updates the book, is it not possible to determine when the page was updated ?

If I understand this correctly, that's a feature request for the drupal.org website, so reassigning. I think this could be a good idea, but it was probably discussed elsewhere.

It is. We have it turned off on purpose.
We have exposed revisions and the requested information is available on most pages.
