This is very strange (and frustrating)... Some times the smileys text is replaced by the smiley image in the message body (as it should), other times it doesn't. Some times when a user inputs multiple smileys, some appear as images whereas others stay as text, all within the same message.

Any ideas what might be going on???

Thanks

I'm having this same problem. I've tried hard to find the answer to this. I suspect the input type settings could be part of the problem (?). --Scott

I get around this problem by copying the text into a plain-text file (or as a quicker solution, I copy it into the URL line of the browser), then copy/paste it back into the message area.

Doing so removes any special/funny characters and the smileys appear.

It would be better though if Drupal could itself strip out those funny hidden "things" that mess up the parsing of the simleys.

@mjourney2 There's a "Stand-alone" property for each smiley. It's description reads "When checked, the smiley will only be inserted when an acronym is found as a separate word. This is useful for preventing accidental smileys with short acronyms.".

i.e. oh :jawdrop: yes! might work but oh:jawdrop:yes! might not.

Whichever smiley you need to behave the other way, you may uncheck stand-alone attribute.

Smileys aren't appearing at all in Drupal 6.6 for me.
