It would be fantastic if you had the option when adding flexifields to be able to add existing nodes of the given flexifield to the node being created.

I agree this would be cool, but I'm postponing it for reasons similar to #368262: Request for configuration option to save flexifield items as nodes.

Basically, although you use node types as a mechanism for defining a field combination to use within a flexifield, the flexifield items are not in and of themselves nodes. That's not to say that this feature can't be done, but it's something I'd like to tackle as an add-on module after getting the core module past the beta and rc stages.
