Surely there is way. Please, somebody tell me I can have the actual Title field be editable. I can get all other text fields to appear editable but no dice on the actual Title field. Am I missing something?

my advice
get rid of the title field, and the body field, use auto node title to make drupal happy, then you can start from a 'clean slate' and use CCK fields for everything.

Out of curiousity, do you name your cck dopplegangers to: field_title and field_body?
