I want the button to appear in my footer and not right underneath the node content. I've unchecked the "Display on node pages", but the button remains in both places. This is Drupal 6.4.

Uh oh.. I need to start writing tests for this thing. Thanks, this has now been fixed in CVS and I will roll out 2.4 in a minute.
