Hello, we use Drupal 5 to create websites for our customers. Drupal 6 has a lack of modules, so we choose D5 for that reason. Views is a MUST in most sites, but I only can use View1, I'd like to use Views2 for Drupal5. Thank you very much for your module :)
ps. Sorry for my English.

merlinofchaos commentedSorry, couldn't resist the laughter.
Your request is simply not possible. Views 2 takes advantage of several features of Drupal 6 that don't exist in Drupal 5. Even if it were possible, I wouldn't, because I don't have that kind of free time.

michelleViews 2 was and still is a huge undertaking. Porting that back to Drupal 5 might not even be possible due to changes in core and, even if it is, this would not be a productive use of merlinofchaos' time. As nice as views 2 is, it is a D6 only module. Views 1 isn't as nice but is quite usable and has been used on thousands of sites. If it doesn't do what you need then you'll need to upgrade your site to D6 and help bring forward the modules that you need. We need to move forward, not backwards.

zietbukuel commentedOK I understand merlinofchaos, but you simply can't laugh at user requests it is NOT polite to do such thing. Thanks Michelle for your kind response :) I didn't know that wasn't possible. I even wanted to donate some money to the project as this is the module I use most. Thanks anyway...

michelleIn merlin's defense, this issue queue is nuts. He gets so many bizarre issues posted that I'm amazed he's not laughing in some asylum somewhere. ;) And I laughed, too. I just did it on IRC and then decided to be nice and post an explanation. But merlin posted one as well at the same time.

merlinofchaos commentedSorry, but frankly this request was not polite, and I don't feel you have the moral high ground to scold me for not treating you with the utmost respect. I am not a customer service drone that you're paying a million dollars a year to. I am a developer whose code you get for free, yet you are making money off of. Given the nature of your request, I'm guessing fairly significant money. Please don't feel for one moment like I owe you anything, particularly politeness.

zietbukuel commentedmerlinofchaos... well, I don't know who you are and I really don't care... OK so I guess I'll just upgrade to D6 and still use your code for free :)
Next time, just don't answer if you think user requests are stupid or nuts, ok?
See ya.

michellemerlinofchaos is the author and maintainer and the one who put hundreds (thousands?) of hours of work into the module that you are using for free. He is also the one responsible for maintaining this issue queue. By posting to this queue you are, in effect, asking him directly to do something. And what you asked, like it or not, was laughable. Maybe it would have been better to laugh in private. Or maybe he could have ripped you a new one instead. At any rate, it was a harmless comment followed up rather quickly by a better explanation. Given all he has to deal with in this queue, I think his response was remarkably restrained.
In the future, taking the time to educate yourself before posting issues will go a long way towards avoiding situations like this.
