Undue "This user is not available" message in buddylist

Drupal 5.10
Buddylist latest for Drupal 5x , buddylist.info,v 1.1.2.2
With 'approval required' option on, whenever one tries to add buddy
the system gives this message ' This user is not available '
The user ( or both the users ) has all valid permissions.
Howver buddy is added most of the times, and once approved they show up in the list.
Sometimes ( cannot reproduce this consistently but seems to happen with users with much older creation dates ) buddy message shows they are being added but do not show up in the list.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Will commenting out 'This user is not available' will do any problem ?

I had the same problem, only able to add users with 'approval required' set to 'off.' I keep on receiving the message ' This user is not available ' and not able to add any users.
Another problem I had encounter is that only admins are able to add buddies, the buddylist menu/add buddy options are invisible to anoyminous and registered members, permissions are correct too.
Not sure what's going on... Btw I had downgrade from buddylist2 to 1 for compatiblility with APK.
