I just discovered Innovation News and I find it really interesting for the project I am developing for creating a User generated Content media for a niche subject. Playing around with the installation in my sandbox, I am not able to replicate the format with two columns as it is shown in your screenshots: whatever the settings I use I always have the home page with stories as a single list (including the published but not promoted).

Any hint on how to fix it?

Thanks in advance and great job.

Massimo

Just to confirm, did you use the actual Innovation News Installation Profile when you installed your site? Note that Innovation News and the Innovation News Installation Profile are two separate projects. The Innovation News Installation Profile creates the actual news website (complete with a two-column layout), whereas the Innovation News module only provides the tools that are used in the Installation Profile, and does not work with themes our layout.

If you did in fact install the profile correctly it should create the two-column format by default. If it didn't, it could be caused by one of a few different problems (many things have to come together to make Innovation News work). Would you be able to provide me with the URL of your sandbox, so that I can help you determine the problem?

I went through Innovation News Installation Profile but I had a number of messages for missing modules I installed separately. Let me try with a new attempt from scratch and I will come to you with the outcome.

Thanks for your prompt answer.

I repeated the whole installation process from scratch:

Profile Innovation News

The Installation was successfull but the result is still the same.

My sandbox is on a local server so I am not able to address you to it but I attach some printscreens that should help in the problem determination: the home page after some stories are added and the Modules Configuration page

Thanks in advance

What browser are using? Are you perhaps using Internet Explorer 6?

mbrignolo’s picture

Yes, I confirm it: IE 6

Right now, I made a try with IE 7 and... you're right there it works

Toasted (the default theme of Innovation News) does not support Internet Explorer 6. It does, however, support more standards-compliant browsers such as Firefox, Opera, and Internet Explorer 7/8. If you view Innovation News in any of these browsers, it should display without issue.

We understand that some users do still use Internet Explorer 6, but the number of such users is not proportional to the amount of time and work that would need to be done to support IE6. In addition, supporting IE6 would essentially be a step backwards, as we would need to "dumb down" the layout to make it compatible. Note that many popular websites have also ended support for IE6 (MobileMe, washingtonpost.com, 37signals).

That said, we at the OPL are all about open source and collaboration. If any developer wishes to build IE6 support into Toasted, we would be willing to work with him or her to help make that happen.

Updating this ticket and marking it as "Won't fix", as we currently have no plans to backport the theme to Internet Explorer 6.
