The attached patch sets a reasonable (I think) default subject for when the subject required setting is turned on, this makes it much easier to use the quoting feature. You might be interested in it :)

This feature request has been dealt with before. If you'd like this feature, please create a separate module that does this for all replies, not just quotes.
