Everyone here has been pretty helpful, so far. I appreciate your time.

I've searched for and installed a "word filter", but I'm running 6.x and it caused errors. I'm wondering if there is a newer module, or one that actually works with D6, that will filter-out or replace profanity.

Any suggestions?

Unlike with some other CMSs, with drupal there aren't usually multiple modules that perform the same function-- actually, it's actively discouraged. Your best bet would be to work with the maintainer of the module to get the bugs addressed. Another option would be to hire someone to fix it.
