Is it possible to for someone to be emailed when someone has replied to them?
So in other words if i replied to 'x's topic is it poss to have an email sent to 'x' to say that they have a reply to there topic?

Yes, use the trigger/actions module which are shipped in Drupal package itself! :-)

There are a few contrib modules that cover this. Subscriptions, notifications, and there's one that works for anon called comment notify or something like that.
