I get the white screen of death when I try to go to the administration page and all I did was put it in my module directory it not even installed and never has been installed...but the rest of the site works fine. When I delete panels from the module directory then I can get to the administrator pages any body have this problem? I have tried alpha1 and the dev and get the same results and I have tried to untar it in the module dir but that does not work eather. Drupal 6 is useless for me if panels and views do not work if you know what I mean....

sdboyer CreditAttribution: sdboyer commentedSimply putting it in the modules directory shouldn't cause this, but...
I'd say there's a 95%ish chance that your problem is that you're hitting php's memory cap. You'll need to up memory allocation, either in php.ini or in .htaccess, or get your host to do it for you if neither option is available.

tsavino CreditAttribution: tsavino commentedMy memory_limit = 256M that is high..... and I just made it 500m if you see anything that I missed let me know becouse I have this problem when I Aggregate and compress CSS files.
Apache error:
[Thu Oct 09 10:50:27 2008] [notice] child pid 11936 exit signal Illegal instruction (4)

merlinofchaos CreditAttribution: merlinofchaos commentedThere is no way to debug a whitescreen without getting the message that PHP gave in the apache or php error log.

tsavino CreditAttribution: tsavino commentedThe only error I get is :
[Fri Oct 24 09:12:26 2008] [notice] child pid 1774 exit signal Illegal instruction (4)
[Fri Oct 24 09:12:28 2008] [notice] child pid 801 exit signal Illegal instruction (4)
I put this in my index.php:
Still no errors.
I get the same white screen when I try to use Aggregate and compress CSS files and get the same error above.

tsavino CreditAttribution: tsavino commentedI deleted the install of drupal I had and put a brand new 6.6 install no extra modules still having the same problem.
Any Clues? Looks like I may have to wait till drupal 7 to upgrade.......

g76 CreditAttribution: g76 commentedhaving same issue. I don't think memory limit is the problem, but I have no idea what it is. Can't a white screen death be caused by two or more conflicting modules as well?
tsavino CreditAttribution: tsavino commentedYes it can but I have a brand new install with no added modules so that can not be the case for me...At leased I am not the only one with this problem.....

g76 CreditAttribution: g76 commentedyeah, this is definitely weird. I really need to get things up and running too. I'm trying to build custom user management pages, and panels seems to be the easiest way to do this. I have panels working on drupal 5. But on D6, I was able to install panels, but shortly after the white screen death came, and after I uninstalled it everything was fine. When I did have it installed and was checking it out, I could not add any content to the panes. I got the interface, but when I clicked on the + icon(which should throw up a popup), nothing happened. I submitted an issue for that too, but no response. I hope the next release will get things worked out. Also, would be happy to see og panels ported.
I am glad I am not only one as well.

g76 CreditAttribution: g76 commentedI just installed the latest dev release. I also disable update status which I was having problems with all the way around. It does not like the shared hosting account. I am not sure if update status could be the culprit or not. So far, no white screen death and I am getting the popups when adding content. I love your module, as far as I'm concerned, it is a necessity. Thank you so much!

kenorb CreditAttribution: kenorb commentedThere is bug in Drupal core when can happen white screen. Is caused by bad code, but nobody cares.
Here is description of it:
http://drupal.org/node/347219
I've made some module will detect reason of white screen, it detecting reason of white screen (if it's Drupal fault), but it's not fully finished yet.
The only good thing to check why is white screen happen, is to run web site under xdebug log.

tsavino CreditAttribution: tsavino commentedI own my own servers where I have the latest php and mysql and it works fine, but at work I have a 10yr old hp super dome portion with only a few php modules install and that is where I am having the problem. But now after a year of testing they decided to scrap drupal and go with Sharepoint (Verizon) so at this point M$ wins. So at this point I no longer have this problem we will not be using Drupal at Verizon :-(

stevryn CreditAttribution: stevryn commentedI've reinstalled the entire site, and now I have panels actually working for me, well about 90%. So no longer an issue for me...I think it was just a bad mix of attempts to make it work.

If it will not help, try this tool to diagnose wsod:

Conclusion: it wouldn't hurt to emphasize the CTools dependency more
