I've created a Drupal 6 version, patch attached.

There was an error message popping up for when editing a content type for the first time after module install, so I've added some stuff to .install for creating all variables on install to make the error go away. Maybe there's a better way to do this, but it works.

Thanks, this seemed to work for me. The diffs were a bit confusing, but once I got them figured out I was able to install and use in 6.6
