I'd like to bring your attention to the reptag module which includes block-embed functionality as one of its optional features.

Once before we found a module that had done this exact job also but I suggest we all pool in to reptag as its modular macros are both lightweight and powerful.

It seems that it may be beneficial to promote its internal features on the reptag project page to make it easier for people to find next time, I'll raise a suggestion there.

Internal documentation describing the 'block' tags supported:

    "{BLOCK:1}"                   => "user-defined block 1",
    "{BLOCK:Contact Details}"     => "user-defined block with the given title",
    "{BLOCK:menu:2}"              => "block 2 supplied by the named module",
    "{BLOCK:image:Random image}"  => "named block from the given module"

Other optional tag sets in the distribution.

RepTag only hasn't been updated in 18 months and only has a dev D6 release.
