Is there any way to have the freelink automatically direct to/load the target URL, especially if it's an external website rather than to go to an internal node containing the URL of interest (somewhere in the Title or Contents)?

spiffyd commentedIssue resolved... use CCK Redirection module!!!
arhak commentedthat wasn't a "fix"
certainly that's the reason of considering this great module unusable
that's a major usability issue
many users look where they are going to land before blindly clicking links
an many more hate to be redirected
there is no need for redirection
capital refactoring suggestions are welcome?

spiffyd commented@arhak: That's correct, this is a usability issue. But the option to redirect should still be available for each freelink.
After all is it really necessary to have an additional page for users to click on for external links in all instances?
arhak commentedreally don't see why is that required
I'm working on my own (dirty) version for wiki links, internal/external and as much config as I could imagine I would need.
My reference book is freelinking, but not doing it that way.
I won't contribute such module because is really a mess, the code is readable, but still learning where things should be placed for the best and shortcutting many stuff.
Anyway, it can illustrate how do "I" see the matter but "capital refactor" for freelinking would be required PLUS rethinking where thing should be (no nasty code).
External links might be the most necessary to be right at sight. Because I can trust your site but don't have to trust where your user's site lead me. I have Firefox with WOT, I tell WOT to trust your site and every freelinking would be in green being an external link to how knows where.
Inadmissible.
