I've searched and finded no module like that.
If nobody have a good idea about how to do that with existing modules, i would do that module.
that would be great
that would be great
.
If you want users to choose a status from a list specified by the admin, use the Dodge module. If you want users to have an arbitrary status, use the Facebook-style Statuses module.
I have undestood something
I have undestood something different: Users will have "online" status just if there're connected, but once they're connected they can switch to "busy", "offline", etc. If they're not connected, their status would be "offline".
For Dodge module( not available for d6 ) and Facebook-style Statuses module( great module now :), congratulations! ) isn't possible to retrieve "offline" status if user isn't connected.
I think the module that covers what i have understood is quite simple.
Oh
Well if that's what you're looking for - then I've actually looked for something like that too and haven't found it. Writing that module is on my list of things to do, but it's pretty far down on a list that grows all the time, so I wouldn't count on it from me...
Will look forward to seeing if any progress is made here.
And thanks for the compliment. :D
Show where?
Where would you want it to show? The two places I can think of are user profiles & forums, both of which I cover with modules. I could maybe see adding that into APK and picking up on the choice in AF.

"Who's Online" block
I use a custom "Who's Online" block with the Block Refresh module. This allows me to constantly refresh the list of users who are online. However, my site is a social network, and some people might not want to be shown as 'online' - so it would be nice if they could mark themselves as 'busy' in a simple manner so they wouldn't show up on the list.
Actually now that I'm thinking about how to do this, I'd really just need a checkbox and a simple table with UID and status. Hmm. Sounds easy. But probably wouldn't fit most needs.
Maybe a dumb question
Michelle, what does it mean APK and AF?
My modules
Advanced Profile Kit and Advanced Forum. Not a dumb question. I'm just too used to abbreviating them. :)

Wow, lots of new comments
Wow, lots of new comments and great ideas
i'm using facebook status too, but thats not what i'm looking for
francort and IceCreamYou. thats it what i mean
michelle. i think it would be better to make a api then of the module
other modules, how advanced forum or your advanced profile kit can integrate the api
a module with many functions can make many problems ...
i think it would be great to include ajax for fast status changing or ?
.
If someone wants to make an API module for it, I'd be happy to make AF & APK work with it. I'm not interested in maintaining another module, though.
