I'm looking for a way to have marginal comments on texts. Wondering if Side Content can currently handle that, or if it is close enough to make it a natural path to enhance it for the functionality I want, rather than write a new module from scratch. The general notion is to have the main column be a text to be commented upon, where readers can place notes to the side of it. Nothing against the standard Web practice of putting comments at the bottom of the page -- just that some things might be served better by having the notes, as it were, scrawled in the margins. I also want to be able to associate notes with specific paragraphs or sections without having to place them on their own pages to do that.
Maybe this would be better handled by floating an iframe to the side and having each section or paragraph have a link that would bring comments on it into that frame?

I don't think this is doable. Matching the position of side notes to specific paragraphs would be a major problem, also dealing with notes overlap would take a lot of work.
What you could do is make sidenotes for a specific paragraph appear when mousing over the paragraph, but that's way outside the scope of this module.
