coloryan commentedCORRECTION: Once I bid on an item, the auction feature is removed. I was able to log back in and tick the "Auction Item" box again, and that reopens the bidding.

tonner commentedI can confirm that I also have this problem and have duplicated it on 2 different (and clean) installs. The auction product reverts back to a non-auction product when a bid is made.

Garrett Albright commentedWow, yeah, so that turned out to be one of those "Wow, how did that ever work in the first place?" bugs. I think I've got it fixed, though, and have submitted an update to CVS. Here's a patch if you're itchy for the fix now. Please let me know if it works.
