I have installed whois as also phpwhois and given permission.
However I am trying to search anything I am getting Connect failed to: com.whois-servers.net or Connect failed to: net.whois-servers.net depending on if I am searching .com or .net url.
Any idea what I have done wrongly.

Gurpartap Singh commentedThe error means that php is unable to access those website. Are you trying to use the module while the internet is off or anything such?

Gurpartap Singh commentedI wonder what it could be. Are your php scripts allowed to make connections with other websites(I wonder if there's a setting for this in php.ini)?
Everything works fine on my local machine.

rlamfink commentedI'm having the same problem.
Anyone have a solution for this?

helmo commentedPlease confirm that your webserver is capable of making outbound connections on port 43 ( the whois port).
You can test this e.g. on a shell with:
telnet com.whois-servers.net 43
Also please confirm if it only happens with .com domains or if other tld's are affected.

However the error persists when trying to fun from a web site.
