Hi,

Ok, made clean install with 6.4 core and 6.x-2.x latest build. Enabled modules jus Content, Text, Fieldgroup
Created group, but when creating custom field - see no option to assign field to the group.
The same in different installs and with 6.x-2.0-rc8 version.

Bug? RTFM? - if so, where can reed about?

Drag and drop. Use the mouse to "grab" the "cross" for the field and drag it to/below the group. (from manage fields page)

I think for the sake of usability - old style select box could be second option :/

I don't see any way you could fit an old style select box into the new UI. If you use the Advanced Help module, there is context-sensitive help available on that page. Advanced Help is also used by Views to make it easier to use Views, so it is well worth installing.
