Is there a way to modify this module to allow for the creation of custom vertical tabs? It would be great to see a module that allows for this:

Add block > Create new "vertical tabs block" > Choose the nodes that will be displayed as tabs > choose the titles for the tabs > assign the new block to a region that is large enough.

What do y'all think?

This is way beyond the realm of this module, which just wants to be a backport of the D7 implementation. Sorry. :/
