as there are
* Repair page bypass feature broken by recent security fix
* Let Securesite work with normal caching
* clean up code and doc
* make the password reset URL work with Secure Site
* Use browser work-around for Safari, too
and many more.
done with a cvs up -kk -jDRUPAL-5 in a DRUPAL-4-7 checkout and manual merging. not much tested, but seems to be working fine here.

The DRUPAL-4-7 branch is currently unsupported, so I doubt this will be committed. I'll leave it Darren to decide, though.

I'll be happy to let ax maintain the Drupal 4.7 version. I would recommend porting from HEAD, which has much simpler code.

I have attempted to contact ax directly. If I do not hear from him soon and no one tests this patch, I will consider this a "won't fix" issue.
