I realize this is a basic function but I just couldn't find the info. I want to have a page on my site where I can periodically post minutes from meetings. I suppose this is essentially the same as a blog or a news page but it seems that every time it try to create stories they appear on my main page. I want a separate page on the site that viewers must navigate to - then once there they can see the postings.
any help?

go to admin/content/types and you will see a list of your content types. Click the edit link next to the type you use for minutes. The settings you want are under Workflow settings. Uncheck Promoted to front page and you should have it.
in sidebar??
could this feature be in a sidebar - sort of like a monthly story that's a side note to the main content?

Sounds doable. I would probably look at Views for that.
