I have a post that's short-ish and Drupal's automatically creating a shortened summary of it (2 of the 3 paragraphs). Seems odd, so I tried using the "split summary at cursor" button and putting everything in the summary. Problem then is that the front page shows a "read more" link, when there isn't any more to read.

Is there a way to manually specify "no summary" or alternatively, how large an node gets before it automatically creates a summary?

the short summary is called a teaser, and you can set the size of the teaser with the 'Length of trimmed posts' setting at admin/content/node-settings.

The path in 6.6 is Home › Administer › Content management > Post settings

and "Note that this setting will only affect new or updated content and will not affect existing teasers." so you will have to recreate content that was already there.
