Im sure it is possible, but would it make sense to add an email widget to the link field? I think so... Feels a bit unnecessary to have two modules (email.module and link.module) for (almost) the same purpose.

quicksketchYou can already have emails, but they need to be of the format:
mailto:email@example.com, as this is the proper format when creating a URL for an email.Comment #2

alrueden commentedI would like this, too. Because I want anybody and everybody to be able to enter their email address without having to add mailto: at the front. That's not intuitive. I don't even remember every time, and I set it up! The help text is well and good but I think most people will skip it, especially if they think they know what's supposed to go in the box.
The Email module is not a perfect solution because it doesn't allow for a link title. What I would really like to see is one module that allows either an email or http address, plus a title. Link is closer than Email, but it's not there yet.

camhowardIf this idea is still being considered, I add my voice to the feature request. It would be a huge help!
Although I add instructions, displayed below the Link field, telling content editors to add
mailto:before the email address, I find they don't remember to do so and want to simply type the email address (or copy and paste it) and have it work.If there is a different / better way to do this, please point me in that direction. The Email module is not meeting this need.
Everything else about the Link module works great! Thanks!

SeanA commentedThis is still an issue. Pedantry means nothing to users; they (and the rest of us) expect to enter a plain email address, and not have to put a special prefix on it. We don't need to enter http: for web addresses to work, why should we have to enter mailto: for email addresses?

nerdoc commentedMy 2 cents to having an email field without mailto:
Couldn't it be possible by parsing? if there is a '@' in the text it is probably an email address
